We’re making shopping online more secure

We’re adding an extra layer of security known as Strong Customer Authentication (SCA). These changes will help fight fraud and make your online transactions more secure.

 

When you’re using your card for online purchases, you’ll have to confirm that it is you using your card by using your mobile phone.

What do I need to do now?

Right now, we need to make sure we have the right mobile phone number for all our card holders, including any additional cardholders.

 

 This is so you can use your mobile to confirm your identity when the time comes. We’ll write to you closer to the time to let you know what to do next.

 

If you have a Business Debit Card you can update your mobile number by:

• Calling us at 02890 330099

 

If you have a Visa Business Credit Card you can update your mobile number by:

• Calling us at 02890 241822

 

Please let all additional cardholders know they need to do this too.

  • Does SCA affect me?

    Yes. Over the coming months, SCA will be introduced for both debit and credit card users when you shop online. This is to increase the security of your transactions. We are changing our terms and conditions for this and we will notify you of the changes over the coming months.

  • Do I have to use SCA?

    Yes. SCA is already required for online banking users and is being introduced for online transactions with your debit or credit card. We will write to you when the time comes and let you know how it works.

  • What do I need to do?

     Do we have the right mobile number for you?

    • If you have an AIB Business Debit card you can update your mobile number by calling us at 02890 330099. You can also update your mobile number by writing to your local branch.
    • If you have a Visa Business Credit Card, you can update your mobile by calling us at 02890 241822 or you can write to us at: AIB Card Services, PO Box 333, Belfast BT1 3FT.

     

    Please let all additional cardholders know they need to do this too.

  • I manage our company's business credit cards – what action do these cardholders need to take?

    We need to ensure we have a mobile number for all cardholders so that they can continue to use their cards online.

    They can update their mobile number by:

    • Calling us at 028 9024 1822.
    • Writing to us at: AIB Card Services , PO Box 333, Belfast BT1 3FT. 
  • Can I opt out of SCA?

    No – SCA is a requirement for certain online transactions

  • Why do you need my mobile number?

    Your mobile number is unique and so it is the easiest way to authenticate online card purchases.

  • Why are you making these changes?

    SCA has been introduced to fight fraud and make transacting online more secure.

  • I live abroad, do I still have to do this?

    Yes. To ensure you can continue to use your card(s) for transactions in the EU or access your accounts online, you will need to be set up for SCA.
